⦁ Social movements primarily take the form of non-institutionalised collective political action which strive for political and /or social change. 

⦁ While India has witnessed many such movements over the centuries, it is only recently that scholars have begun to study them in depth. 

⦁ This thoroughly revised and updated version of a seminal book divides studies on social movements in India into nine categories based on the participants and issues involved: peasants, tribals, dalits, backward castes, women, students, middle class, working class, and human rights and environmental groups. 

⦁ Each of the nine chapters is divided according to the major components of most social movements: issues, ideology, organisation and leadership. 

⦁ Based on these divisions, Professor Shah critically examines and reviews the literature concerning social movements in India from 1857 to the present. 

⦁ In the process he discusses the theoretical issues raised by various scholars while analysing major trends in different movements. 

⦁ In conclusion, he suggests areas for future research. Proposing a logical classification of social movements in modern India, this book will be widely welcomed by social activists as well as by political scientists, historians and sociologists.

⦁ It will also be invaluable as a text m courses on social movements.

• According to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB)2 data – 572 rapes were reported in 2011, the number rose to over 800 in 2012 highest in the last 10 years making it India’s “rape capital”.

• that involved a rape and murder of young 23-year-old female physiotherapy intern who was beaten and gang raped in a bus in which she was travelling with her male companion on December 16, 2012 in New Delhi.

• The young girl died from her injuries thirteen days later while undergoing emergency treatment in Singapore. The media called the young victim as Nirbhaya

• The Nirbhaya news caught the attention of the entire main stream media but a new trend was witnessed and the power of Citizens through Citizen Journalism was actively playing a role

Internet:- Internet is playing a very important role in part of our life since many years, Internet is not only used for browsing & surfing but starting from very common uses like communication through email’s Social networking sites even talking or contacting our parents or friends living far away from country is much more easier because we can not only talk to them even can talk with each other face to face by some internet based application’s.

Internet is become the backbone for Smallest to Small & biggest to big companies or industries for example our Railway network, Airlines, Transportation system, Hospitals, Schools, Banks etc are running & giving us smooth living life because of Internet, Because by the help of Internet we can book any ticket of Railway, Airlines or even bus ticket by just sitting at home instead of standing on big queues, Banking system is become & improved so much because of internet so that we can keep records of our bank account by just using Internet Banking,  One can withdraw money anytime of the day or night even anywhere in the country or abroad by using ATM service because all the network is connected with internet which can transmit the data at any time of the day.

Getting information of anything can be easily searched on Internet based search engine called GOOGLE where one can search about History, Person, Country, City, News, products & much more.

Nowdays using internet is much easier as we can easily access Internet on our smartphone mobiles very conveniently & that help us to be connected with world round the clock, We can run many applications in our mobile like, Facebook, Skype, Twitter, Whats app, Wechat & many more that help us to keep connected with our family & friends & not only this nowdays we are not only knowledgeable about only our country or culture but now we are knowledgeable about other countries & their culture which help us to educate & improve ourselves.

Nowadays people of the world use internet broadly. Invention of the internet has had many different effects in many various aspects of the human life. Althrough I don’t deny some negative effects of the invention of the internet but I violently disagree with this opinion that internet has had only negative use it for cutting fruits and eating them.it is only an instrument too. It can be used for good or bad purposes.
